Health Insurance
Even if you enjoy good health, you or your loved ones may need medical care at some point in your life. Accidents and illnesses happen and having a well-chosen health insurance will allow you to get medical care without ruining your home budget. The same insurance will allow you to use hospital care without fear of bills related to treatment and recovery.
Often, people in good health underestimate the possibility of getting sick or an accident and postpone matters, which are after all the most important for everyone, until it is too late and often you have to incur huge costs associated with treatment and medical surgery.
Policy Types
HMO - with this type of insurance you will have access to doctors and hospitals in a specific providers network, which is created by health facilities cooperating with the insurance company on pre-determined principles and quality standards. This insurance is usually cheaper but it will not be appropriate if there are no such health facilities in your area or if there is no specific medical specialty within your network. Other restrictions may apply, e.g. on the number of visits, tests or therapies.
As a rule, HMO insurance involves the selection of a primary care physician (PCP) who will determine each time what therapy you need, and if necessary, PCP will direct you to the appropriate specialist or order specialized examinations.
PPO - with this type of insurance you will have more freedom in deciding which doctor or hospital you want. Here you can also take advantage of a visit to the network of facilities cooperating with the insurer, but you can also choose a doctor at your discretion. However, a higher premium and own shares are associated with the PPO policy.
